Privacy Policy

Summary

`台語辭典` is an offline Taiwanese Hokkien and Mandarin dictionary app. The app does not require account registration and is not designed to sell personal data or track users across third-party apps or websites.

The app stores core dictionary resources and user preferences on the user's device so that dictionary lookup and audio playback can work offline after setup.

Information stored on device

The app may store the following information locally on your device:

• app preferences such as language, theme, and reading text size
• bookmark data
• recent search history
• downloaded offline resources, including source files, local database files, and offline audio archives

This local data is used to provide app functionality. It is not uploaded by the app to the developer merely because it exists on your device.

Network use

The app uses network access for limited product functions, including:

• downloading offline dictionary source files
• downloading offline audio archives
• opening external links selected by the user, such as the project repository or Ministry of Education reference pages
• sharing content only when the user explicitly invokes the system share action

The current production download endpoints used by the app are hosted under `https://app.taigidict.org/assets/`.

Information processed during network requests

When the app downloads files or opens external links, the relevant hosting provider, CDN, or destination website may receive normal technical request data, including:

• IP address
• request timestamps
• requested URL
• basic network and protocol metadata

This project does not use that traffic to create in-app user accounts, profile users inside the app, or build cross-app advertising profiles.

Permissions

The Android release build currently uses these normal permissions:

• `INTERNET`
• `ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE`

These permissions support file downloads, link handling, and network-aware media behavior. The app does not currently request high-risk Android permissions such as location, camera, microphone, contacts, SMS, call logs, or photo/media library access.

Data sharing

The app does not sell personal information.

The app does not share personal information with third parties for advertising or cross-app tracking. User-initiated sharing is different: if you choose to share a dictionary entry through the system share sheet, the receiving app or service will process that content under its own privacy terms.

Third-party services and open source components

The app uses third-party and open source components for core functionality, including network transfer, audio playback, native sharing, local storage, and external link launching.

The app may also connect to third-party websites that the user chooses to open, including:

• `taigidict.org`
• `app.taigidict.org`
• `github.com`
• `sutian.moe.edu.tw`

Data retention and deletion

Most app data is stored locally on the device.

You can generally remove locally stored app data by:

• uninstalling the app
• clearing the app's local storage through the operating system
• using app settings to manage certain downloaded offline resources

Children's privacy

The app is a general reference tool and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when the app's behavior, infrastructure, or compliance requirements change. The latest version on the site and in the repository supersedes prior copies.
